Year 11 student Maylene Morris has been selectedas a 2026 youth ambassador for Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC).
Each year since 2010, MTC has chosen a group of Year 11 theatre-lovers to participate in a free, year-long extension program that offers insight into the world of professional theatre.
Maylene will meet with her 15 fellow youth ambassadors roughly once a month, and will be offered the chance to extend her knowledge and experience by attending 10 MTC productions, meeting artists and staff from across the company, and sharing their responses to theatre.
She’s excited by her appointment.
“Being a youth ambassador means having the opportunity to connect with other young people who share a passion for theatre and the performing arts,” Maylene said.
“It allows me to learn more about the industry, experience different productions, and share my thoughts and ideas with others.
“One of the highlights of our first meeting was getting to meet everyone and hearing about their interests and experiences in theatre. It was exciting to be part of such a welcoming group, and I enjoyed learning more about what we’ll be doing throughout the year.
“I’m looking forward to seeing more shows and developing new skills as a youth ambassador.”
The other youth ambassadors represent the following schools: Albert Park College, Catholic Regional College Sydenham, Gleneagles Secondary College, Greater Shepparton Secondary College, Kilbreda College, Loreto College Ballarat, Lyndale Secondary College, Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School, Mansfield Secondary College, Marian College, Mount Ridley P–12 College, Notre Dame College Shepparton, Sandringham College, Sydney Road Community School and Woodleigh School.
