The Visual Arts Academy (VAA) at Manor Lakes P-12 College offers passionate and creative students the opportunity to extend their artistic skills in a supportive and focussed environment. Designed for Year 7 students, this specialised program nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression through diverse visual arts experience.

The Arts Academy provides a strong foundation for further study in Visual Arts, Media, and Design throughout secondary school and beyond. It helps students build confidence, creativity, and skills that are valuable in many future pathways.

VAA Students will:

  • Investigate how artists use materials, techniques, and visual elements to communicate meaning

  • Explore artworks from different cultures, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives

  • Reflect on and discuss their own work and the work of others

  • Build confidence using art-specific vocabulary

  • Develop skills in planning, creating, and presenting artworks

  • Develop their own artistic style and voice

  • Create both 2D and 3D artworks

Student selection process:

Entry into the Visual Arts Academy is based on the following criteria to ensure students are committed and ready to benefit from the program:

Portfolio of student artwork.

Reference Letter -from both the Year 6 teacher and art teacher.

Attendance record – ideally, 5 or less days a term absent.

Positive School Chronicle – behaviour and learning habits.

2027 Visual Arts Academy Mentor: Larissa Taylor

An interview with potential participants will be given once the above selection criteria is reviewed. Those who are unsuccessful will be added to a waiting list.
