Our Grade 6 girls were the queens of the primary campus this week after finishing third in the state 4 x 100-metre relay.

At the State Track and Field Championships at Lakeside Stadium on Thursday (October 29), the fast foursome – Mackenzie, Ruth, Mackayla and Baheera – qualified fastest, winning their heat in a personal best time of 54.83 seconds.

With the final held at 6.10pm, the girls were cheered on by staff who attended outside school hours.

Once again, the quartet ran strongly and were among three teams to rocket past the line in under 55 seconds. However, they were just pipped by Geelong College and Lauriston Girls School.

The girls progressed to the state championships after excelling the previous week at the western region finals, where we had a record number of students representing the school at regional level.

These competitors also included:

• The desperately unlucky Dau Garang came third in the 11 year boys 1500m in a personal-best time of 5.05.58, missing the state final by less than a second.

Dau was also fifth in the 800m in 2.35.16 – also a PB.

• Ruth and Mackenzie ran in the 12 year girls 200m, with Ruth achieving a PB of 29.54.

• Baheera competed in both the 12 year girls 100m and 800m.

• Moriah finished sixth in the 12 year girls shot put with a PB throw of 7.81m.

• Alim leapt to a PB in the 10 year triple jump with an effort of 7.94m.
