Girls Join AFL Guard Of Honour

26 June, 2026

Our National Reconciliation Week activities had an early start on Sunday May 24 when two of our students – Alkira Clark-Brown (Year 10) and Taylarni Fernando Doolan (Year 8) – participated in the the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round.

Alkira and Taylarni were invited to be part of the guard of honour before the game between the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne at Marvel Stadium.

We thank Vanessa Ayres, our Marrung champion, for encouraging our students to be involved, and for working with the Nallei Jerring Program to support both girls and their families with this opportunity.

The girls got a surprise when they saw our executive principal Tori Mulligan and mentor John “Doddsy” Dodd cheering them on.

“It was a great experience for me as individual person,” Alkira said.

“I had so much fun. Thanks to the school and the Nallei Jerring Program for the experience. It was wonderful. I would definitely do it again.”

‘Nallei Jerring’ means ‘join and unite’ in Woi Wurrung language.
